Acridine orange binding to RNA interferes DFI calculation in SCSA

18 03 2010

To the Editor:

In the era of assisted reproductive technique (ART), it is very important to assess DNA fragmentation index (DFI) and establish threshold levels beyond which there is poor ART outcome, pre- or post-implantation failure or recurrent spontaneous abortions. The study by Smit et al. (1) is very informative and of immense clinical significance. Read the rest of this entry »

Ovarian steroid hormones differentially regulate thrombospondin-1 expression

12 03 2010

To the Editor:

We read with great interest the article of Tan et al. (1) which reported that thrombospodin-1 (TSP-1), a multifunctional extracellular naturally occurring angiostatic protein is differentially regulated by ovarian steroids. Although it is of great clinical value to understand the mechanism(s) involved in TSP-1 regulation by ovarian steroidal hormones especially in relation to how it is involved in endometriosis. However, there are some points we would like to raise regarding the study of Tan et al. (1). Read the rest of this entry »

Re: Cryopreserved-thawed human embryo transfer: spontaneous natural cycle is superior to human chorionic gonadotropin-induced natural cycle

4 03 2010

To the Editor:

We read with interest the paper by Fatemi et al. (1) on timing natural cycle (NC) frozen embryo transfer (FET). This randomized controlled trial compared timing NC-FET by spontaneous LH-P rise with hCG for triggering ovulation. The study was terminated early since an interim analysis found a significantly higher ongoing pregnancy rate in the spontaneous LH surge group. Read the rest of this entry »
